Due to the variable iron levels in feedstuffs and low bioavailability, supplementation is often practiced. Iron is most critical in red blood cell activity, oxygen transport and cellular use. Anemic animals generally perform poorly. Research shows that feeding supplemental organic iron is most effective if fed to your nursing animals.
